The Devil is a Loser

Nobody likes to lose. From a simple board game to the tragic loss of finances due to a bad deal. None of us like to experience loss. We spend so much of our time trying to protect ourselves from losing in regards to what we deem “big losses.” We buy car insurance, life insurance, and health insurance, we protect our homes with security services, and a host of other things to ensure that we do not lose.

So, it then would be safe to say that when we look for the different types of insurances or securities that we are looking for good quality products, right? I mean do not get me wrong, but “Bob’s Security Service” does not necessarily instill a lot of confidence in someone like “ADT”. We would never buy insurance from someone that we do not trust. Why? Because it is too important to protect our family.

If we will do all this for our physical lives, should we not do the same for our spiritual lives? We all have a soul (Matthew 10:28). Is there any way that we can protect ourselves? Yes, but like anything in life, there can also be a bad deal. Let’s see what two types of insurance we can “buy” and what the result of each “company” is.

Option #1: The Lord. The Bible tells me that God has an insurance plan in mind for the people of this world that follow Him (John 14:1-2). This package is one that offers us a life in the hereafter that is totally different from the life we know. There is no more anguish, sorrow, or pain which includes death (Revelation 21:4). Like everything, though, there was a cost for this plan to go into effect. Jesus had to die so that we could live (1 Peter 3:18). This was done willingly by Christ (John 3:16; Philippians 2:4-10). Jesus wants us to be saved (Luke 19:10). Was He successful? Peter tells me that He was when he informed everyone on Pentecost that they could be saved (Acts 2:38). All the way back in the Garden of Eden, God promised the Devil that he would bruise the heel of Christ, but that Christ would bruise his head (Genesis 3:15). Death did not defeat the Savior, He defeated death (Matthew 28:5-6)! If I want to buy into this package, I need to do what the first century Christians did. They followed the pattern, and they received eternal life (John 14:6).

Option #2: The Devil. Good vs. Evil has been a theme well before Hollywood ever got ahold of it. It was the Devil who approached Adam and Eve about changing their coverage from God to his. What was promised by the Devil was that Adam and Eve would be like God (Genesis 3:4-5). Yet, what he actually delivered to them was death (Genesis 3:9-24). The Devil wants you to live life and not stress about doing what God says. If you want to be a murderer, go ahead. If you are a liar, lie like your life depends on it. Jesus warned us of the traits of those who follow the Devil (John 8:44). Does the Devil win? No. Remember that God was absolutely correct when He foretold of Jesus bruising the head of (or delivering a death blow to) Satan (Genesis 3:15).  Jesus delivered this blow when He rose Himself from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:57-58). Death no longer has a blow to it. Revelation tells us that the Devil’s ultimate end is to be bound for 1,000 years and be cast into Hell forever (Revelation 20:1-10).

Why should any of us hitch our wagon to the Devil, instead of God? The Devil is a loser. I want to win – don’t you?
