Steadfast – Part 2: Steadfast in Prayer

This article is the second in a series on being steadfast. Let’s discuss being steadfast in payer. Sometimes I think we as Christians forget the significance of prayer. We need to remember that when we pray, we are entering the presence of the Almighty God. God has given us this amazing privilege to be able to talk to Him and ask Him anything we want. God does not always say yes to every petition that we give Him, but He will answer every prayer. Did I just contradict myself? No, I did not. I said that God would answer every prayer, and He will, but the answer will not always be yes. Sometimes God does say yes, other times no; sometimes He even says wait a while for the answer, but God does answer every prayer.

Since we have this amazing privilege to go before the Almighty God, we need to be steadfast in it. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 simply states: “Pray without ceasing.” Pray without ceasing or pray steadfastly.

A lot of people pray only when they want something or when times get bad, but we need to pray all the time. Prayer is an amazing thing. We need to take all our cares to God because He cares for us, as stated in 1 Peter 5:7.

Prayer is also amazing because if we confess our sins and pray for forgiveness and repent, God will forgive us. Some people are under the impression that their sins are so bad that God can never forgive them. They are some of the saddest people because God can forgive you as long as you are willing to repent. Take Paul, for example; he had Christians put in prison and might have killed some, but God not only forgave him, but Paul was also one of (if not the) most influential preacher besides Jesus in all history. If God can forgive a man who killed His own people, then He can forgive you, but you must be willing to repent – that is the key.

Prayer is an amazing opportunity to ask God, but it is also the best opportunity to praise God and thank Him for all the things that He gives us. We as Christians are privileged to have the hope of eternal life, and we need to thank God for that hope very day.

Prayer is something that we are blessed with and that we need to take advantage of. We must be steadfast in prayer. Do you pray, steadfastly? Do you take all your care to God? These are questions that we need to ask ourselves every day.

Stay tuned for the next article, which will discuss “our steadfast hope.”
